FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Horse Logging and Forestry Management Day Scheduled in Oregon County Alton, MO (April 8, 2010) – The Ozarks Draft Horse Association has announced the scheduling of a Horse Logging Demonstration and Forestry Management Day at Black Bell Acres outside of Alton in Oregon County on Saturday, April 24, 2010, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The event is free to the public.
Demonstrating horse logging will be Ira King, who has been logging exclusively with horses since 1993. Mr. King states that, “Horse logging is a good option for folks who care about their land, because horses are gentle on the ground.
Steve Peas, from the Missouri Department of Conservation will probably be on hand to answer questions about forestry management. Kirsten Kosinski, Vice President of the Ozarks Draft Horse Association and owner of Black Bell Acres, states, “It is important for land owners to talk to Steve, or another forester from the Department of Conservation, before having their land logged. A forester can tell you which trees have value and what the long term impacts of removing certain trees will be. He can help you develop a plan.”
The Ozarks Draft Horse Association promotes the use of draft animals, including horses, oxen, mules, etc, for work and pleasure. Monthly meetings often include demonstrations and educational activities. For more information about the Association, contact Kirsten Kosinski.
Black Bell Acres, owned by Al and Kirsten Kosinski, is a diversified farm that raises milk goats, grass fed lamb, Scottish Highland cattle, and more. Al and Kirsten also own a pair of Percheron draft horses.
Black Bell Acres is located on County Rd. 314, off of P Hwy, in Oregon County, between Alton and Rover., by the Cover Memorial Wildlife Area sign. Call Kirsten (417-778-6009) for directions and more information.
